DAB Reviews

Just when I feel that every flavor imaginable has come across my desk, I am handed Watermelon Kush.  A far cry from the berry, citrus, and tropical flavors of other acclaimed “Kush” strains, Watermelon stood out to me immediately as a uncommon exception.  The exact genetics of Watermelon Kush seem to be a mystery, but the common consensus is an intense indica genetic dominance.

The first time on the site for Royal 710, their branded extracts are on par with the established names in the industry.   Our sample of their Watermelon Kush shatter was a deep earthy brown, that buddered after some time in the heat into a nice shiny cluster of crystals.  As for the taste, when the mind tells you it should taste like snozzberries, it tends to taste like snozzberries.  Low temp dabs reveal a complex flavor profile of Kush’s trademark hashiness and dark berry, accented by lighter strawberry and tropical punch flavors.

A daytime solution for those who prefer to medicate with Kush strains, Watermelon Kush is a surprisingly uplifting and cerebral Kush, with equally noticeable body effects for an all over high.  Bordering on OG territory with its effective stress and anxiety relief and mellow mood elevation, Watermelon Kush also offers moderate pain relief with none of the lock of other Kush strains.  For an unusually upbeat Afghani experience, this is a must try Kush cut.

Banana OG from Moxie Extract Review by OCWeedReview.Com

It doesn’t take a long time browsing through the Review’s Instagram to see that we love Moxie.  Every half gram we come across in the shops is visually striking, just begging to be photographed.  But Moxie’s quality doesn’t reside in just its beauty.  These well rounded stunners are terpy and flavorful and incredibly potent, making them well worth the top shelf price.

Although a relatively obscure strain, Banana OG is likely a mix of an uncertain banana flavored strain and OG Kush.  Adding to the enigmatic genetic makeup is the possibility of it being the branded Apothecary Genetics hybrid.  If that is the case, then it adds in a second OG cut into the mix with SFV OG.

The flavor of Moxie’s Banana OG explodes with tropical pineapple and banana flavors.  An unmistakable profile, the daiquiri like taste is a great novelty, like sipping a tropical drink on white sand beach, and comes through in even high temp dabs.  The extract is barely opaque and tinted a luminous champagne yellow.  A well crafted shatter, only in the highest heat did it lose its hard, glassy consistency.

An easy hitting OG, Banana OG is not extreme or significant in its effects.  Instead, it is mellow and refreshing throughout its range.  At its peak, Banana OG can be a bit slowing — not so much couch-lock as simple contentment.  Like day drinking on vacation, it’s pure relaxation.

Jilly OG from Moxie Review by OCWeedReview.Com

I was asked once by a fellow patient whether Moxie extracts were really worth the $10-20 dollars more a gram it goes for in the shops.  To this, I answered, “Absolutely”.  I donate for other brands, all relatively similar in price and presentation.  But the results are always dark brown and tacky and anything but what I have come to expect in a quality shatter, leaving me disappointed when I get home.  So for a few bucks more, I grab Moxie and guarantee I’ll be happy with my choice in meds.

Upon unfolding the parchment this Jilly OG extract is stored in, the terpy scent hits you immediately: tropical and woody.  Flavorful dabs match this profile with a nectar sweet and light cypress wood dominating the subtle orange and spice notes.  The shatter itself is a pale yellow.  Thin and nearly clear enough to see through, Moxie has nailed clarity in this run, creating a perfect shatter.

A longtime favorite on the site, Jilly Bean is a hybrid of Orange Velvet and another popular strain around the office, Space Queen (Cindy 99 x Romulan).  This sativa dominant strain is then crossed with an unidentified OG, because it is Southern California and that’s what we do.  Mostly an upbeat and happy high, Jilly Bean is the kick in the ass needed some days to get motivated.  Adding the OG refines this into a more reposed, weekend strain for days tossing the frisbee at the beach, golfing, or otherwise enjoying your time off.

Gold Coast Extracts Tangie Walker Shatter Review by OCWeedReview.Com

Gold Coast is known for putting together some sublime strain combinations to make their shatters, and thisnug run Tangie Walker is no different.  Assuming the “Tangie” comes from Tangerine Dream, then this cross with Whitewalker OG creates a balanced indica/sativa strain worthy of their creations.

This shatter has a powerfully sweet orange citrus scent.  This terpene rich experience carries into the flavor of the vapor.  Dabs of Tangie Walker make the whole room smell, and even just opening the plastic container my half gram came in sends out an acidic rush.  The shatter itself is a deeply translucent amber color, which was smooth and consistent for that beautifully shimmering aesthetic.

Tangie Walker’s high starts clear headed and purposeful.  There is plenty of mind wandering creativity to help brainstorm projects at work.  It is an uplifting enterprise, which was nice after a week of heavy kush.  Each dab brings a very cerebral rush and enjoyable mood enhancement, making it seem perfect for work days.  But then it turns.  At higher doses or with extended medicating, Tangie Walker becomes dissociated and slow, manifesting in the stereotypical faded and stoned feeling.

Honey B Nectar from Hungry Monkey Company Review by OCWeedReview.Com

I was able to meet up with the Hungry Monkey Company during a recent Weed 4 Warriors event held at the OC Norml office in Santa Ana.  After a sesh and a sampling and some fine conversation, I walked away with their Honey B nectar to feature on the site.  The 2013 HTCC 1st place winner in San Bernardino in the extracts category, Honey B is a Barney’s Farm creation and as soaring a sativa as you can find.

This extract sample from the Hungry Monkey Co. was a buttery light color and had a softer consistency.  It worked well in several of our pens in the office, as well as off our domeless ceramic.  Honey B as a concentrate makes for a flavorful dab, like sweet candied orange, with a sugary after-taste on the exhale.   I could vape this extract all day.  And I did. Until it was gone

Modest dabs of this Honey B nectar created enormous clouds of vapor, and lung expansion was out of this world.  The high hits immediately in a rush upon exhale.  It is physically comforting, but Honey B really shines in its cerebral effects, as expected from its almost entirely sativa genetics.  The clear, focused high makes it useful as a workday strain.  But patients will find it an effective treatment for depression and other psychosomatic symptoms at any time.

There is little wonder that Honey B scored the gold two years ago at the SoCal Cannabis Cup.  An incredibly uplifting sativa, we quickly exhausted our sample from the Hungry Monkey Company with constant, flavorful dabs.  A crowd favorite, and enthusiastically endorsed by us here at the Review, sativa lovers are sure to love this extract.

Maui Blue Shatter from Kush Extracts

When I think of Maui Blue, my mind wanders to sun-drenched beaches awash with wave after wave of cerulean-blue water.  Of course, I’ve never been to Hawaii, so I have no idea what it actually looks like.  However, everyone in my family besides myself owns a timeshare on Kauai.  Through the years, there has been no shortage of stories of its inspired loveliness, but this loveliness comes for a price.  Now that I’ve found this 78% THC Maui Blue shatter from Kush Extracts, though, anywhere I session becomes my own personal paradise.

The first thing I noticed about this extract was the gorgeously glowing light amber color.  It was unlike any shatter I had seen before.  It was such a golden orange hue that it seemed to glow iridescently through the parchment paper in which it came wrapped.  When the light, any light, hit this shatter, it lit up in aesthetically interesting ways.  I could have photographed this strain all day long.  But eventually it was time to tear it apart for reviewing.

Dabs of this Maui Blue released really flavorful vapor.  Even if you aren’t for low temp dabs, this one is worth the complex taste.  The dark berry terpene exists in spades from the Blueberry, but it is equally matched by Maui Waui’sacidic lemon and fragrant pine.  It had a sweetness though, typical to both strains, that I enjoyed through every hit.  Kush Extract’s shatter was also easy to dab over long sessions.  I’m a cougher, but I noticed no irritation or fatigue in the lungs.

This Maui Blue hybrid is perfect for those looking for a nice sativa lean.  I’ve always loved the Maui Waui high, dominant in this extract, ever since I first reviewed it.  It is energetic and purposeful, and I noted its tendency to promote creativity.  I took a gram with me out to Joshua Tree and went wandering among the rocks.  The mostly cerebral high increased visual and aural stimuli, making for a heightened experience.  But don’t be surprised if the Blueberry sneaks in to knock you flat.  A base in many of my favorite strains, Blueberry is a solid indica offering both pain relief and a body buzz bordering on physical euphoria.  While testing this shatter, I took more than my fair share of unscheduled dab naps.  Overall, though, Maui Blue is an effective daytime sativa high, great for depression, that also brings with it a tangibly comforting physical sensation.

Clear Concentrates Pineapple Cheesecake Sap

Trying to photograph this concentrate was like trying to photograph a ghost.  All you were left with was a blurry, transparent smudge in your picture.  But when the light hit the sap just right, this extract gleamed.  Clear Concentrates is a prime player in the concentrates market, and after this sampling, I can certainly see why.  I’m not entirely sure of the strains involved in creating this extract, but I found it similar to Pineapple Chunk, with its Cheese, Skunk #1, and Pineapple genetics.

This fantastic sap is so light that it is almost translucent, leaving just a hint of “golden” hue for the eye to latch onto.  “Clear Concentrates” indeed.  There was a mildly sweet tropical fruit and some citrus acidity blended in the scent.  The taste, like a warm pineapple upside down cake–you know, the ones with the pineapple rings and cherries on toothpicks–is luscious.

Saps present easy vaping on a hot nail.  It is a breeze to load a glob: just stab and twist and your dab is ready.  I’ve used the term “explodes into vapor” before on this site, but never so literally as with this concentrate.  Quick lungs or a carbcap are necessary if you use a domeless, as I do.  As with other saps I’ve tried, a little seems to go a long way, and this gram lasted me much longer than an equal weight in honeycomb or wax would.

Pineapple Cheesecake proved itself a stimulating and energetic high.  It was clear headed and purposeful, similar to a Strawberry Cough, but more mellow in the mood.  The effects do not reside only in the mind, and there is a strong body melt after a big dab.  Sedate body effects work to mitigate anxiety or minimize most pain.  A surprisingly erudite high for an indica dominant, you shouldn’t be afraid to medicate during daytime hours, regardless of what is on your to-do list.

Remington Extracts OG #1 Space Crystals Extract Review

When Strictly OG from out of LA arranged for me to review Remington Extracts’ solventless Space Crystals, I had no idea what I was getting myself into.  Then they arrived at my doorstep, packaged in their cleverly re-imagined matchbook with the clean 60’s space age design.  I couldn’t wait to tear into them.  Anything packaged this well has to be exceptional.  And true to expectations, these crystalline extractions are as pure a concentrate as any I’ve seen before.

I took to these Space Crystals immediately upon beginning my review, and this is almost entirely due to their stability, even at high temps.  The OC Weed Review’s office get blasted by afternoon sun, buddering shatters and causing most waxes to become gooey, making them difficult to work with.  However, these Space Crystals are a dream to handle, and it was a breeze pulling off perfectly sized dabs every time.

Remington Extracts’ OG #1 Space Crystals absolutely glistened in the sun when we photographed them, giving off a golden yellow hue.  Some of the fatty lipids in the extract leached out in our SoCal heat, as can be seen in the picture, but this didn’t affect my experience negatively.  Lower temp dabs, as suggested on the packaging, revealed that wooded flavor of a conifer forest early in the damp morning dew — a rich, earthy flavor — for which OGs are known.  Hands down one of the tastiest extracts I’ve had this year.

Although I personally prefered the SD x OG in terms of its sativa leaning effects, this OG #1 is the better of the two samples we received.  In comparison to the hybrid, this OG #1 is lighter in its color, smoother in itshit, cleaner in its taste.  It is everything a great extract should be.

With SC Labs test results at over 88% THC, this extract is not for the faint at heart.  However, like all great OG phenotypes, there is a great mellow build to the high.  There is a certain body buzz created by a good OG, like being hugged by hundreds of butterflies or faeries or other tiny winged entities that people who are into crystals like.  It is the denotative definition of comfort, perfect after a stressful day or to ease away mild pain.  It causes some drag when put to long sessions, resulting in a couch-locking effect.  The wonderful thing about a potent extract like this is that a little goes a long way and lasts for hours.  Meaning you will be enjoying these Space Crystals for a long time.

Order yours from Stricly OG.

GoJilly OG Shatter Review

HGH GoJilly  OG Nug Run shatter absolutely jumped off the shelf when I visited Diamond Grove for the first time.  A combination of Bodhi Seeds’ Goji OG (Snow Lotus x Nepali OG) and Jilly Bean from TGA genetics (Orange Velvet x Space Queen), this product is superior shatter made from superior strains.  Beyond the designer strains in its genetics, this concentrate is beautifully packaged on folded parchment paper and placed inside a small mylar bag.  Outside of all this is a printed envelope with this company logo.  This is where the future of designer weed is going, and HGH is right onthe forefront.

Holy moly this is some clear shatter.  It is a beautiful golden yellow color, and it shimmers glass-like under bright light.  It was a bit soft in these warm California afternoons, but it made loading my Cloud pen no more difficult.  When heated, it let off a light vapor, just a bit expansive, which is a nice change to some cough inducing waxes and shatters I’ve had.  There is a real nice berry and tropical fruit flavor–like pineapple and mango– and a bit of citrusy acid.  Expect some sweet woodiness from the OG Kush as a marginal addition to the taste spectrum.  All in all, it is an absolutely fragrant and delectably tasty shatter.

With Jilly Bean and Goji OG the most likely genetic combo, I was expecting a sativa dominant, happy high.  I was right.  It was immediate and intense.  Not especially clear headed, it was a hazy high.  I had a hard time finishing sentences or concentrating on a single idea when first medicating.  It eventually evened out to a thoughtful, introspective high.  I found myself prone to fits of smiling.  It was one of those delightfully mellow stoner highs that erase pain and problems in a single blow.

Shabba Cookies OG Shatter Review

In Hebrew, Shabba means to swear an oath.  In Jamaica, it means “I understand”.  In terms of shatter, it seems to mean knockout amazing.  While it is an easy guess that there is some GSC in this hybrid, I had no end of a hard time researching this particular genetic structure.  The closest I came to some solid evidence hinted at a Girl Scout Cookies x XXX OG.  I’m short to jump to hasty conclusions, so it’s best to simply take it for face value.

This nug-run shatter from HGH Extractions is extremely light in color, a promising trait for a clean vaping shatter.  Out of my Gpen microG, I was pulling nice smooth hits and creating huge clouds of vapor.  The sweetness of the vapor was cotton candy like from the Cookies, making for a pleasant vaping experience.  There was also some mild earthy spice from the possible OG link that made for a warm, baked taste.

As with most high percentage concentrates, there was an immediate blast to the head when taking a dab. I was left light headed and loose limbed.  The high isn’t just in the body, and matching the relaxing body buzz was a mellow and spacy cerebral high.  I found Shabba Cookies to be most effective for migraines and joint or muscle pain, while the mild mood elevation makes your physical discomfort more bearable while being treated.

Trainwreck Wax Review

Trainwreck Wax Review

One of the rare strains that can trace its lineage back to the original landraces, Trainwreck combines Mexican and Thai landrace sativas with an Afghani indica.  Having been on my “to review” list for longer than I can remember, I was hoping to track down Trainwreck as a flower, but obtaining it in wax is certainly no letdown.

The scent has mild notes of the common sweet lemon and spicy pine.  There is also a strong pepper tree taste to the vapor, meaning it has high levels of the terpene Beta-Caryophyllene.  A hard wax, it doesn’t mold well for dabs but is effective for dropping into my Cloud pen.  I noticed that it heats and cools in my pen to a clear amber with a glass like hardness when not vaped in one session.

This sativa dominant strain will leave you easy going and loose lipped.  A very social high, Trainwreck leaves no trace of anxiety or self-consciousness, allowing for a paranoia free medicating experience.  With its unexpectedly strong pain relief and slight physical sedation, it can be incredibly effective for those suffering from chronic pain, PTSD, or anxiety.  The high is calming and disconnecting, helping the user to step away from their triggers.  However, it is a sativa dominant, so there is plenty of mood elevation as well, making Trainwreck an everyday high for those who donate in bulk.
